A Word From Our President, April, 2019
April 4, 2019,
Dear Friends and Members,
April has arrived and spring is in full bloom! Just like seasons change, so do the demands of our profession. In a fast paced world of ever evolving technology and new B2B and consumer demands, it is essential we keep our skills sharpened as Project Managers. With longer days, it's a perfect time to earn some PDUs to continue to grow, and of course, keep your certifications current!
Which leads into Initiative #3: growing the profession through establishing a focus on new PMs. Whether you are newer in your PM journey or have decades under your belt, we all have something to bring to the table. There is a special satisfaction that comes from mentoring. I'm sure we can all think of someone in our lives, whether professionally or personally, who had an impact on our development. Share your positive experiences to make PMI Dallas stronger for another 35 years. We are also offering two new events this, focusing on the the members between the ages of 20-40, however everyone is welcome to attend. Keep watching the calendar for more regarding these events.
Are you planning to attend UT Dallas Project Management Symposium 2019? This year’s theme is Project Management in a VUCA World. VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) is an interesting concept, developed by the U.S. Army War College and growing quickly in the business world. Symposium is a vital event featuring leaders and influencers in the project management and business community. May 21-22, 2019, University of Texas at Dallas.
At this month’s Dinner Meeting on April 11th, be sure to come network, enjoy a delicious meal, and catch Lisa M Ong, i.e., a "Talent Gardener", speak on becoming professionally bolder by harnessing the power of “Wishing Out Loud”®. Lisa is a CPA, Executive Coach, Lifetime Ascend member, Past Chair of the Dallas CPA Society 2017-2018 and a diversity and inclusion director. She specializes in diversity, leadership development, coaching and facilitation.
The PMI Dallas Toastmasters meeting is April 20th. The April workshop will be hosted in Dallas on April 13th where we'll be discussing Qualitative Math for PM and Quantitative Analysis. There will be two Lunch and Learn meetings in Dallas/Addison and Plano on April 26th.
Have a great month and thank you for supporting the Chapter during our 35th Anniversary. I hope to see you at some of our events.
