About the Presentation:
During the 2002 drought, the City of Aurora’s water reserves dwindled dangerously low, spurring Aurora Water’s managers to devise a plan for the development of a new water supply through the Prairie Waters Project (PWP). The PWP provided a reusable, environmentally sensitive, and sustainable supply of water to Aurora’s reserves. This project, which was awarded the 2011 PMI Project of the Year (PoY), completed design and construction in just over five years at a cost of $653 million, more than $100 million under budget. The speed of delivery of this project and the cost savings were due in large part to a high-functioning management team which employed such management principles as identifying and limiting risks, establishing clear lines of communication and conflict resolution, empowering decision making at the lowest level, encouraging collaborative and creative problem solving, identifying critical success factors, and fostering camaraderie.
Considerable interest has been generated by the success of this project. In one such case, the PoY application was used by the Project Management Institute, International Council on Systems Engineering and MIT’s Lean Advancement Initiative, to explore how Lean Enablers were applied by the program management team. This case study will present real life examples for the successful implementation of Lean Enablers as presented in the, The Guide to Lean Enablers for Managing Engineering Programs.
Speaker Biography:
Scott Ingvoldstad joined CH2M HILL in 2006 and currently serves at the director for governmental affairs for the Central US. Scott is responsible for CH2M HILL’s governmental relations in a 9-state region, including Texas. He also works to support the firm’s clients and directly with the company’s ten business groups to identify opportunities where CH2M HILL can leverage their expertise to help communities and clients solve the tough challenges.
Scott’s first role at CH2M HILL was to help the City of Aurora’s Prairie Waters Project build public support and obtain strategic endorsements. Aurora’s Prairie Waters Project has been one of the most successful large water projects to be completed in the arid region in over 30-years. Scott worked closely with Aurora’s Utility director and other key staff to ensure that the project team had a productive relationship with regulators and stakeholders, to ultimately complete the project on a fast-track schedule and under budget. He enjoys working on several other projects that have political and public profiles and political risks and opportunities.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Scott works to represent CH2M HILL in the community. He works in collaboration with the company’s departments of Diversity & Inclusion, and Community Investment to serve as an executive representative who engages in civic events. These include: the Biennial of the Americas; South Platte River Clean-up; Highline Canal Clean-up and others.
From 2003 to 2006, Scott operated his own communications and political consulting company. There he represented foundations, not-for-profits and political campaigns. Before that, Scott was the regional strategic communications officer for Environmental Defense Fund’s Rocky Mountain office.
