A Word From Our President, February, 2019

Dear Members and Friends,

As we continue to Celebrate 35 years of Excellence, I have developed four key initiatives to continue our positive trajectory for the future. These initiatives are key to us developing the next 35 years and ensuring positive results in the future. The board and I have reviewed these objectives and believe they are strategic initiatives and will help grow the profession as well as the chapter. These initiatives are:

  • Improve member retention
  • Increase chapter membership
  • Revamp the member offering and include a focus on millennials to ensure a successful next 35 years
  • Celebrate the 35-year anniversary with a family friendly event

If you one or more of the initiatives sound interesting, please look for the upcoming volunteer opportunities that will be listed in VRMS over the next few weeks. Each initiative has been assigned to two board members and there will be a committee developed for each to make sure we include the inputs of our members. Don’t be afraid to volunteer as there will be some activities that will require small amounts of time while others may be more involved, so it will be something to peak everyone’s interest.

In addition to these plans for the year we have several events planned for February. This week we have our Monthly Dinner meeting and our speaker will be Valerie, who is an accomplished Executive Leadership Coach, with a focus on 4 Generations and Leadership for the 21st Century. I would like to encourage you to come out to our meeting and hear our speaker as well as network with fellow colleagues. In addition to the dinner meeting this month, we also have two Lunch & Learns, for those interested in a networking lunch break with other project professionals. This month’s L&L is scheduled for February 22, 2018 in Dallas/Addison and Plano. These events are completely free, as each person purchases their own lunch at one of the two locations and sits with the group to discuss interesting project management topics.

Finally, if you are looking for ways to better communicate to your project team and/or your management team, you should check out our PMI Dallas Toastmasters Club which meets every month. This month’s meeting is scheduled for December 15, 2018 and it is an excellent way to hone your public speaking capabilities in front of an unbiased audience. The Toastmasters Club always provides participants with great feedback.

If there are any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at president@pmidallas.org.

Thanks,

Joe Carson, PMP
