PMI Dallas Disaster Relief Initiative

The PMI Dallas Chapter, PMI Fort Worth Chapter and the PM World Journal have initiated a quick win relief initiative to help fellow PMI members impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Phase 1 is a drive to collect gift cards for immediate donation to PMI members on the Texas coast who were seriously hurt by the storm.

Please bring gift cards to the PMI Dallas chapter dinner meetings through December 2017.

Preferred cards for the following:

  • Hardware stores
  • Home goods stores
  • Grocery stores
  • Restaurants
  • Gas stations

Anyone is welcome to donate multiple gift cards in any denomination; but please limit the value of any single card to a maximum of $50. To make a gift card donation, you are not required to attend a dinner meeting.

Because PMI Chapters are registered with the IRS as 501c(6) not-for-profit educational organizations (and not as 501c(3) charitable organizations), we cannot accept financial donations directly nor act as charitable organizations. We have teamed up with David Pells, PMI Fellow and former PMI Dallas chapter president, at the PM World Journal for collection and delivery of the gift cards. Although donated gift cards will not qualify for charitable tax-deductible donations, please consider donating a gift card for this humanitarian program. (For gifts donated by business entities, check with your tax accountant for deductible information.)

The Project Management Institute (PMI®) has three chapters in the area devastated by Hurricane Harvey: PMI Houston chapter (4,000+ members), Clear Lake Galveston chapter (south of Houston with 400+ members) and Coastal Bend chapter based in Corpus Christi (est. 100 members). Houston, the 4th largest city in America was almost entirely flooded. Some 200-400 PMI members in the region sustained serious damage to their homes and lives. These gift cards will provide immediate assistance to those in need and fill a gap until other types of assistance can be provided.

For more information, contact David Pells at pells@pmworldinc.com.

Please also consider donating to charitable organizations working to relieve all people stricken by Hurricane Harvey (and now Hurricane Irma in Florida). To see list, click here.
