PMI Dallas Disaster Relief Initiative

On August 25, 2017 Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast near Corpus Christi with Category 4 winds and torrential rain. For the next five days the storm moved slightly inland and eastward; flooding devastated thousands of homes in dozens of towns across 50 Texas counties with millions evacuated.

PMI® has three chapters in the area devastated by Hurricane Harvey, including the PMI Houston Chapter (4,000+ members), Clear Lake Galveston Chapter (400+ members) and Coastal Bend Chapter based in Corpus Christi (est. 100 members). An estimated 200-400 PMI members in the region sustained serious damage to their homes and lives.

Following the hurricane, the PMI Dallas and Fort Worth Chapters and the PM World Journal joined forces for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Initiative to help PMI members hurt by the storm. Based on a suggestion from one affected chapter, gift card donations were collected from PMI Dallas and Ft. Worth chapter members for PMI members on the Texas coast who were seriously hurt by the hurricane.

During September, October and November 2017, gift cards to restaurants, grocery, hardware and home good stores totaling $2,045 were collected and shipped to the affected chapters for their members.

Heartfelt gratitude was returned by chapter leaders and members who received the gift cards.
